BSTI cancels 13 substandard food, one cosmetic item licences

Dhaka, Dec 24 – Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has cancelled licences of 14 substandard products of 12 companies.The certification marks licences of the companies with the BSTI were cancelled as their products were found to be of low-quality in lab tests after collecting samples by BSTI surveillance teams from the open market, said a press release on Monday.
The 14 items are fortified edible oil of Shakti Edible Private Limited and AK Khan Food and Beverage; iodised salt of Bismillah Salt Company, Janata Flour & Dal Mills Limited, and Ifad Salt & Chemical Ltd; vermicelli (Lachchha) of JK Food Products and Raven Food Company Ltd; skin cream of Modern Cosmetics & Herbal Industries Ltd and GM Chemical Works Ltd; ghee of New Chattala (Pvt) Ltd; vermicelli (Lachchha), ghee and chanachur of Khazana Mithai Ltd; and turmeric powder of Prome Agro Foods Ltd.
The BSTI also directed manufacturers, suppliers, wholesalers and retailers to stay away from selling, distributing and storing these items, and running any commercials on those until licences are taken newly.
It also requested consumers not to buy those products. – UNB
