Buet bans student politics: Abrar murder response

Dhaka, Oct 11 (UNB)- Buet Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Saiful Islam on Friday afternoon announced a ban on all kind of organisational student politics on the campus.

He said 19 students, accused in Abrar Fahad murder, suspended.

He made the announcement while speaking to Buet students over their 10-point demand.

Several hundred students of the university gathered in front of Buet Shaheed Minar from 11:20am with placards and shouted slogans demanding capital punishment of Abrar’s killers.

Abrar Fahad, 21, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of Buet, was beaten to death reportedly by BCL leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.

He was found dead on the staircase of the dormitory early Monday.

A total of 17 suspects have so far been arrested in the case.

Abrar’s father Barkatullah filed the case with Chawkbazar Police station on Monday evening accusing 19 people.

The case was transferred to the Detective Branch on Tuesday for investigation.
