Bumper chilly production likely in Bogra

Farmers of Bogra district are hopeful of achieving bumper production of Chilly in this season as the agricultural imputes are provided by local Department of Agriculture Extension. Besides, the favourable climate condition also helps to grow bumper chilly. Hundreds of farmers of the district have involved themselves in chilly cultivation in the fertile (char) lands of Gabtoly, Sariakandi, Sonatola and sadar upazila of the district considering its economic aspect. Department of Agriculture Extension Deputy Director Chandi Das said, “Around 590 hectares have been brought under chilly cultivation in the district this season.” “The farmers are showing more interest to grow chilly as it is more profitable than other crop.” he added. The chilly growers of sadar upazila said, “DAE official encourage us to use high yielding variety seeds instead of local ones.” “They also provided farmers with logistic support and necessary training to achieve the bumper yield.” they added. The New Nation correspondent recently visited different char areas of Gabtoly, Sariakandi, Sonatola and sadar upazila and saw farmers are busy harvesting work in the their chilly fields with much enthusiasm. Ramjan Ali, a farmer of Fapor union under Sadar upazila told that he cultivated 0.25 acre of chilly during the current season which cost the Tk 6000. He is very happy selling with the production of chilly. He is hopeful to earning about Tk 50000 by selling green and red dry chilly this year. He is at present selling per kg green chilly at Tk 25 to 30 and red dry chilly tk 140 to 150 in the local market.Dupchanchia Correspondent
