Bumper wheat production has brought smile on the face of farmers of all the five upazilas in the district as they got fair price for the crop during the
current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 15,682 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation with the production target of 47,830 tonnes of wheat in the district.Rashidul Islam, a farmer of Sonaher village under Debiganj upazila said I have harvested 130 mound of wheat from 4 acres of land spending Taka 50,000 and hope to earn Taka 1,10,000.DAE Director Panchagarh Md Nazrul Islam told BSS that modern cultivation methods, distribution of high quality seed to the farmers, need base training and ensuring irrigation facilities including other agriculture inputs to the growers at fair prices are the main reason behind the bumper production of wheat in the district. -BSS, Panchagarh
