Dhaka, July 7: The probe committee report on the launch capsize on the river Buriganga will be disclosed formally here Tuesday as the death toll due to the launch accident reached to 34.Earlier, the probe committee has submitted the report to the ministry last night.
The probe committee has made the MV Mayur-2 launch as liable behind the capsize of the ML Morning Birid launch as the committee got evidence that the incident was taken place due to the negligence of the Mayur-2 launch staffs including its driver and master.
The Shipping Ministry formed a seven-members high-powered probe committee immediately after the launch capsize incident took place at Shyambazar area, adjacent of Sadarghat, on June 29. The ministry asked the committee to submit their report within seven days.
Shipping Minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury will disclose the probe committee report before the media at around 1pm.
“After analyzing the video footage and examining at least 50 people statements including the eyewitnesses have made it clear that the only reason to capsize the morning bird launch was due to hit by the MV Mayur-2 launch”, said a probe committee member condition on anonymity.
Besides this, the probe committee had found total carelessness and negligence of the Mayur-2 launch staffs in launch operation during the entire investigation, said the official.
Due to the reckless launch operation to the rear direction caused the sinking of the Morning Bird launch which came to near Sadarghat after leaving from Kathpatti of Munshiganjwithin that time, he added.
The launch capsized with more than 100 passengers on board and 34 bodies so far have been recovered.
At least 34 people died after Moyur-2 hit and sank another launch in the Buriganga on June 29. The following day, Shamsul Alam, sub-inspector (SI) of Sadarghat River Police Station, filed the case with Keraniganj Dakshin Police Station.
The seven accused are Moyur-2 owner Mosaddek Hanif Swad (33), his employee Abul Bashar Molla (65), launch master Jakir Hossain (54), engine driver Shipon Hawlader (45), Shakil Hasan (28), Sukani Nasir Mridha (40), and Ridoy (24).
Although the law-enforcers have detained the Mayur-2 launch, it’s owner and driver have managed to flee.
