Business leaders want May 2 hartal withdrawn

The business community on Sunday urged BNP to withdraw their May 2 dawn-to-dusk hartal keeping in mind the Savar tragedy.“The whole business community of the country is urging to withdraw the daylong shutdown, considering the recovery of the nation from the catastrophic losses and shocks of Rana Plaza collapse,” said a written statement signed by business leaders.
The signatories to the statement include Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmad, Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) president AK Azad, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) president Rokeya Afzal Rahman and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) president Afsar Uddin Chowdhury.
“The business community thinks the most important task right now is to rescue the workers still under the wreckage of the collapsed Rana Plaza and give them proper treatment. So, it won’t be sensible to enforce any hartal on May 2,” the statement said.
The business leaders called on the people of the country to come forward in
aid of the families of the dead and the injured of the Rana Plaza
