BYLC to host Global Youth Climate Summit on Mar 11

Dhaka, Mar 2 (UNB) : As part of its celebrations of Bangladesh’s 50th anniversary of independence, Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) will host Global Youth Climate Summit on March 11-12.BYLC will host the event in partnership with California-based Foundation for Climate Restoration, Resilient Markets, and the Centre for Climate Repair at Cambridge, said a press release.
News agency United News of Bangladesh(UNB) will be the media partner of the event.
Young generation will face the worst effects as the frequency and intensity of climate change events have been increasing.
Through the summit, BYLC will mobilize youth from across six continents, build their leadership skills and empower them with the tools to lead the fight against climate change.
The summit will bring together 500 youth changemakers, aged between 13 and 24, from six continents to launch a Global Youth Commitment, which is a pledge co-created by young people for young people to commit to the actions necessary to avert global climate catastrophe.
It is one single commitment that is relevant for youth from both developing and developed countries. Though it is a global pledge, BYLC is launching it from Dhaka, as Bangladesh is not the only country that is affected by the climate change, but it is at the forefront to fight against it.
Furthermore, 12 youth climate champions will be competitively selected from the delegates; each of whom will receive a full scholarship to attend a leadership course and a USD 1,000 award for their climate restoration projects.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudury, former Chief Scientific and Advisor to the UK Government Sir David King, former Warden of Oxford University’s Keble College Sir Christopher Ball, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Foundation for Climate Restoration Peter Fiekowsky, and prominent teen climate activists Alexandria Villasenor and Rebeca Sabnam will speak at the summit among others.
BYLC is accepting applications for the summit till March 5, 2021. To learn more and apply, visit
