CAB suggests electricity tariff cut by Tk 0.28 a unit

Dhaka – The consumers association of Bangladesh (CAB) has proposed to reduce the electricity price by Tk .28 and cited that the government policy in power sector is problematic. It also observed the proposed price hike as illogical.Speakers said this at a seminar on ‘proposal on cutting electricity price’ organized by the CAB at the Biddut Bhavan of Dhaka yesterday.
Nasrul Hamid State minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources addressed as chief guest while Golam Rahman, chairman of CAB presided over the event.
Prof. M Shamsul Alam, Cab Energy Adviser, said in his speech that the Public Hearing conducted by the cab was seen the proposal to reduce the price of electricity.
If subsidy was not made in the 2017-18 financial year, the revenue deficit was Tk .57 for wholesale electricity sale and Tk .29 for distribution. With the combination of both these deficiencies, the price of electricity is in progress.
In reply, the State Minister for Power urged graphic form instead of huge presentations to analyze the situation as its worth easy understanding and also include what the government is doing for the sector.
He welcomed the analysis and assured of considering these in power policy.
Shamsul Alam said, we have calculated that it is possible to reduce the price of electricity instead of increasing it, but the PDB is working to raise the price artificially. If our 15-point recommendation is met, the power sector will come to profit.
M Tamim, the former caretaker government advisor, said the price of fuel oil has fallen in the international market and it is possible to reduce the price of electricity by adjusting the price between fuel oil electricity. – Staff Reporter
