Canadian ‘Second Cup Coffee’ opens in BD

Canadian top coffee maker Second Cup has begun its journey in Bangladesh’s “growing” coffee market.The global brand opened an outlet at Banani in the capital Dhaka on Monday, announcing they will open more such outlets in Uttara, Gulshan, and Dhanmondi.Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka Benoît-Pierre Laramée officially inaugurated the outlet.Historically Bangladeshis take tea as their warm beverage, but in the past few years, many coffee outlets were opened in Dhaka.“It’s a promising market,” Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, operations manager of the Second Cup Coffee Company in Bangladesh, told bdnews24.com.

“Once coffee used to mean instant coffee prepared like tea, but now people are favouring different types of flavoured coffees. It’s gaining popularity,” he said.To attract youths, they will offer free wi-fi while serving coffee. To woo customers, they also launched a ‘super saver midday deal’ and a ‘student deal’.Since 1975, the Second Cup opened over 345 outlets across Canada. It has also made its presence in at least 30 countries.
