Chattola East Zone makes decent start in Bangladesh Games

DHAKA -Hridoy Dev and Rihand Khan may missed out a
well-deserved century but their 90 plus knock guided Chattola East Zone to a
facile 63-run victory over Jahangirabad Central Zone in the Bangabandhu 9th
Bangladesh Games at Abdur Rab Serniabat Stadium (ARSS) in Barishal on Friday.

Opener Hridoy Dev scored a patient 94 while Rihad Khan made a rapid 93 as
Chattola put up a decent 269 runs before being all out in 49.5 overs. Later,
their bowlers came up with disciplined bowling to wrap up Jahangirabad for
206 in 46.2 overs.

Opting to bat first, Chattogram received a setback, losing two wickets for
27 runs in just fourth over. As the situation looked ominous for them, Hridoy
and Rihad brought the side back in contention, sharing a 184-run partnership
for the third wicket stand.

The partnership which kept the Jahangirabad bowlers at bay proved to be
the game changer. Hriody struck eight fours and two sixes in knock in which
he played 143 balls.

Rihad was more attacking in his approach as he clobbered four fours and
five sixes.

After the departure of the duo in the space of just 34 runs, Chattola saw
a collapse that forced them to loss six wickets for 24 runs.

Shahriar Alom was the wrecker-in-chief, claiming five for 42 runs while
Abu Bakkar Ahmed and Abdullah Al Toufiq scalped two wickets apiece.

But that didn’t prove fatal for Chattoal at the end. Their bowlers bowled
well in tandem to curb the aggression of the Jahangirabad batsmen right from
the onset. As they bowled with probing line and length, Jahangirabad batsmen
found it tough to get going despite most of them got their desired start.

Ariful Islam was the highest scorer for Jahangirbad with 67 off 79, that
included seven fours and three sixes. Amir Hossain made 22.

Mustakim Mea was the highest wicket-taker for Chattola with 3-31 while
Ahmed Sharif and Mazharul Haque snapped up two wickets apiece.

Earlier in the opening day of the cricket event, Varendra North Zone
crushed Chandrodip South Zone by 211 runs to make winning start.

There is no match of the cricket event tomorrow (Saturday). However
Chattola East Zone will take of Chandrodip South Zone in their second game on
Sunday.

Top two teams of the point table will battle for the prestigious gold
medal on April 10, the day when the curtain of the Games will be closed.BSS
