Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Morrelganj upazila here stopped a child marriage at Kamla village on Saturday.
UNO M Abdul Halim said the parents of Maria Akter, 13, a student of class seven, arranged marriage of their daughter with Jamal Pike, 20, son of M Jobbar Pike at Shibpur village of Kachua upazila.Being informed, UNO rushed to the spot with police personnel and arrested the girl’s father, Jobbar Pike and Imam Nurul Islam.Later, the UNO fined them one thousand taka each of the two fathers and the Imam was fined five hundred taka. -BSS, Bagerhat
