Childhood marriage bid foiled in Bogra

Attempt to solemnise an childhood marriage was foiled at Sampur Namapara
village in Shibganj upazila of the district on  Sunday night.On information, the members of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers
Association (BNWLA) led by its legal councilor Adv Syeda Morjia
(Narzu), interfered in the matter and foiled the marriage of Sarmin,
13, a student of Class VII of a High School of the area under Shibganj
upazila of the district. Marriage of Sarmin daughter of Md. Sona Mia,
was fixed with Md. Mahbubor Rahman, 26, son of late Moslem Uddin of
the village Bamshar under
Gobindaganj upazila of the district and the minor girl’s parents took all
preparation to complete the marriage ceremony, said local people.
Members of Social Protection Group (SPG)
under the project of Human Rights (PHR) informed. Adv Syeda Morjia (Narzu),
legal councilor of (BNWLA) and her associates rushed to the spot and they were
met to the guardians help with the local union parishad members and discuss
about effects of under-age marriage. Advocate Narzu told to the reporter that
he has stopped his immature daughter’s marriage after really understand.
