CNG refilling stations across the country will remain closed for seven hours from 3pm to 10 pm every day during Ramadan until July 1. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Power Division with State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid in the chair on Sunday, sources close to the meeting told UNB.
But, they said, the decision was not formally announced. CNG refilling stations usually remain closed for 5pm to 9 pm every day as part of the government’s gas rationing against the backdrop of countrywide nagging gas crisis. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.
Power Division officials who attended the meeting said the decision was not announced by the Power Division since the issue is supposed to be decided by the Energy Division.
But in compliance with the decision, the Energy Division will issue a circular in this regard through Petrobangla which is responsible for gas supply to the CNG refilling stations.Contacted, Petrobangla chairman Ishtiak Ahmed confirmed the decision and said Petrobangla will issue a circular in this regard very soon.
A senior official at the Power Division said the decision was taken mainly to improve gas supply to household consumers and also the power stations.The meeting also decided to keep closed the operation of Jasmuna Fertilizer Factory and also asked the two bulk power consumers in private sector-BSRM and Abul Khair Steel Mills- to do so during the peak hours to provide increased electricity to household consumers.
Recently, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said CNG refilling stations will remain open round the clock from July 1 to July 10 to ensure smooth fuel supply to passenger-carrying vehicles before and after Eid-ul-Fitr.
