Commission soon to try Aug-15 carnage conspirators: Anisul

Dhaka – Law Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday said a commission will be formed soon to identity and ensure the punishment of those who were behind the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.“We’ve the opportunity to find out those who were behind the August 15 massacre…InsahAllah the commission will be formed,” he said.

He made the announcement at a discussion arranged by Sampriti Bangladesh at the Jatiya Press Club.

The minister also mentioned that an official announcement on the special commission would be made after consultation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Bangladesh and Bangabandhu are inseparable. He (Bangabandhu) and almost his entire family were killed because the plotters knew it was impossible to annihilate Bangladesh if anyone of his family members survives,” said the minister.

He added that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has breathed a new life into Bangladesh.

Anisul Huq mentioned that Ziaur Rahman was among the conspirators who had plotted the murder of Bangabandhu.

“Ziaur was involved in the conspiracy of Bangabandhu killing…as there’s no way to bring charges against the dead according to law, he was left out,” the minister added.

He said those who were against Bangladesh’s liberation got awarded in many ways during Ziaur Rahman’s reign.

He further said the cabinet led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take decisions about the special commission and its working areas.

“I personally think this commission’s investigation should be limited to investigating the killing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family and find out the conspirators,” said the minister.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan said August 15 killings were plotted by those who could not acknowledge Bangladesh’s liberation.

“It’s the nation’s demand that the conspirators behind that killing be tried and served justice,” he said.

Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Sampriti Bangladesh Convener Pijush Bandyopadhyay, among others, spoke at the programme.UNB
