Corona stimulus packages aimed at rich, not poor: BNP

BNP on Thursday alleged that the government has taken too many steps to protect the rich from coronavirus fallout ignoring the sufferings of the poor and destitute.

“The government has announced stimulus packages of thousands of crores of taka for businessmen and the rich. It’s taking various other steps, including special hospitals, for the wealthy people,” alleged BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

While distributing relief materials in Munshiganj’s Shreenagar area, he also said the government is not taking effective steps to ease the sufferings of the poor and low-income people. “The government is hardly bothered about the starvation and food crisis of the marginalised people.”

The BNP leader alleged that though people across the country are crying out for government’s assistance, the relief materials, including rice, bought with public money are being recovered from the houses of Awami League leaders.

“People are now dying from starvation and their bodies are found here and there. A child committed suicide in Sirajganj failing to get food and bear the pain of hunger. This can’t continue,” he observed.

Rizvi said the government has failed to tackle the coronavirus outbreak for lack of effective preventive measurers, and ensure proper treatment for the affected people due to mismanagement.

He said their party leaders and activists all over the country are standing beside people with relief materials as per their ability.

The BNP leader urged the government to take steps for forging a national unity and overcome the corona epidemic and its aftermath with united efforts.
