Coronavirus: BCB halts Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League

Dhaka  — Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday halted the second round matches of the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League till March 31 over coronavirus outbreak.

The decision was taken following a direction of Ministry of Youth and Sports to halt all the ongoing sports event of Bangladesh, said a media release from BCB.

The board will take further decision of rescheduling and restarting the league according to the health and safety advisory of the Bangladesh Government, it said.

Earlier of the day, Zahid Ahsan Russell, the incumbent State Minister for Youth and Sports, said all the ongoing sports events around the country will be halted till March 31 to tackle the coronavirus.

Regarding the issue, BCB’s chief executive officer Nizam Uddin Chwodhury said: “We’ve decided to halt the league for now, following the instruction of the government.”

Before the Dhaka League, Bangladesh’s Pakistan tour for an ODI and one Test in April, has also been postponed due to coronavirus outbreak.

At the same time, Bangladesh Olympic Association postponed the Bangladesh Games 2020. Beside these, Bangladesh Football Federation also halted the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League due to the same reason. UNB
