With the death of 28 more new Covid-19 patients in 24 hours across the country, the total fatalities in Dhaka division reached 2,507 till Thursday morning as 17 of them died within the capital and its surrounding districts.
The death tally due to Covid-19 rose to 5,072 in Bangladesh, according to a handout provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Another 1,540 fresh cases of Covid-19 infection were detected during the period which raised the number of total cases in the country to 3,55,384 since the first detection of the infection on March 8.
The DGHS handout said 12,900 new tests were carried out during the period that took the total number of sample tests to 18,75,537.
It said 18.95 percent of total tests turned out to be Covid-19 positive and the daily infection rate was recorded 11.94 percent on Thursday.
The total number of recoveries reached 2,65,092 till Thursday 8 am as 2,1390 former patients got cured of the disease during the period.
The recovery rate in the country dipped slightly to 74.59 percent while mortality rate remained the same at 1.43 percent, the DGHS release added.
Currently, there are 85,220 active cases in the country. Bangladesh is seeing 2086.73 infections, 1,556.56 recoveries per million while 29.78 are dying against the same number. Among the 28 new deaths, including 21 men and seven women, 17 are aged above 60.
Alongside the 2,507 deaths recorded in Dhaka division since March 18; 1,050 have died in Chattogram, 335 in Rajshahi, 427 in Khulna, 186 in Barishal, 224 in Sylhet, 236 in Rangpur and 107 have died in Mymensingh division within the same period.
Across the country, 15,986 people are now in isolation and 46,167 in quarantine. In Bangladesh, the first three cases of coronavirus infection were detected on March 8 and it crossed 3,00,000 on August 26.
On July 2, a total of 4,019 Covid-19 patients were identified in the country which was the highest in a single day.
Global Situation
Coronavirus cases across the world reached 31,779,533 on Thursday, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University (JHU).The death toll from Covid-19 stands at 975,100 in the morning.
Data compiled by JHU showed that India now has the second-highest number of cases with 5, 646,010 after the US as of Thursday. The South Asian country has so far reported 90,020 deaths.
However, Brazil has come to the third position with 4,591,364 cases and 138,105 deaths.The US is the worst-affected country with 6,933,248 cases and 201,880 fatalities.
Coronavirus cases were first reported in China in December last year. The World Health Organization declared it a pandemic in March.
