Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 15 deaths; 1,527 new cases

Bangladesh on Friday recorded 1,509 recveries, pushing the total to 300,738. The recovery rate is 77.89 percent.

The health authorities reported 1,527 new cases of Covid-19 after testing 13,577 samples in the last 24 hours. So far, the country has recorded 386,086 positive cases.

During this period, 15 coronavirus deaths were recorded, pushing the death tally to 5,623. The fatality rate in Bangladesh is 1.46 percent, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said. So far, 2,140,129 samples have been tested and 18.04 percent of them have turned out to be positive.

Currently, there are 79,725 active cases in the country. Bangladesh is seeing 2,267.01 infections, 1,765.86 recoveries per million while 33.02 are dying against the same number.

Of the total victims, 4,327 are men and 1,296 are women. Among the latest victims, 14 are above 50 years of age and one other is aged between 31 and 40 years.

So far, 2,875 people have died in Dhaka division, 1,129 in Chattogram, 360 in Rajshahi, 454 in Khulna, 193 in Barishal, 239 in Sylhet, 255 in Rangpur and 118 in Mymensingh. Across the country, 12,259 people are now in isolation and 39,995 in quarantine.

In Bangladesh, the first three cases of coronavirus infection were on March 8. The cases reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 5,000 on September 22.

Global Situation

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases is approaching near 39 million globally, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

Coronavirus cases reached 38,833,032 globally as of Friday morning. Meanwhile, the death counts reached 1,097,228. More than 26.8 million people recovered from the virus infection, the JHU tally shows.

Worst-hit countries

The United States remains the worst-hit nation by the pandemic, with more than eight million infections and 217,754 deaths.

A new ensemble forecast published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday projected up to 240,000 Covid-19 deaths in the United States by November 7.

India’s tally reached 7,307,097 and death toll 111,266 on Thursday, as 67,708 new cases and 680 deaths were reported.

There are 812,390 active cases in the South Asian country, while 6,383,441 people have been successfully cured and discharged in.

Meanwhile, the third worst-hit country Brazil has counted 5,169,386 cases and 152,460 deaths.

Russia reported 13,754 new cases and 286 deaths on Thursday, following Wednesday’s record daily rise, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,354,163 and death toll to 23,491.
