Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 1696 new cases, 24 deaths

Bangladesh on Thursday saw another spike in Covid-19 cases as the health authorities of the country confirmed the detection of 1,696 new cases in 24 hours, taking the caseload to 394,827.Twenty four more patients died from Covid-19 during the period, raising the death toll to 5,747.

Besides, the total recoveries from coronavirus have jumped up to 310,532 with recovery of 1,687 more patients from the disease in 24 hours. The fatality rate in Bangladesh is still 1.46 percent, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The daily infection rate on Thursday was recorded 10.97 percent upon testing 14,086 samples in 24 hours. 17.86 percent of the tested 22,06,411 samples so far have turned out to be Covid-19 positive.

The recovery rate has climbed to 78.65 percent in Bangladesh, the health authorities said. Bangladesh is seeing 2318.33 infections, 1823.47 recoveries and 33.75 deaths per million.

Currently, there are 78,563 active cases in the country. Of the total victims, 4,422 are men and 1,325 are women. Of the latest 24 victims, 21 are aged above 50 years.

So far, 2,951 people have died in Dhaka division, 1,150 in Chattogram, 367 in Rajshahi, 462 in Khulna, 197 in Barishal, 241 in Sylhet, 260 in Rangpur and 119 in Mymensingh.

Across the country, 12,150 people are now in isolation and 39,871 in quarantine. Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The number of cases reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 5,000 on Sept 22.
