Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 38 deaths, 2060 new cases

Bangladesh reported 38 more Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours until early Sunday, taking the fatalities to 6,388.

The country also recorded 2,060 new cases at that time, pushing the infection number to 447,341. The death rate stood at 1.43%, said the Directorate General of Health Services. So far, 362,428 patients – 81.02% – including 2,076 new ones in the last 24 hours have recovered.

Bangladesh reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8. The infection number reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll hit 6,000 on November 4.

Up to now, 2,649,072 tests have been carried out, including 13,870 new ones, and 14.85% of the patients turned out to be positive. Bangladesh is seeing 2626.68 infections, 2128.09 recoveries, and 37.51 deaths per million.

So far, 3,377 have died in Dhaka division, 1,234 in Chattogram, 389 in Rajshahi, 488 in Khulna, 215 in Barishal, 262 in Sylhet, 291 in Rangpur, and 132 in Mymensingh.

Global picture

The global Covid-19 cases reached 58,095,887 on Sunday with 1,379,83 more deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. The US remains the worst-hit country with 12,088,409 cases, including 255,833 fatalities up to Sunday.

Brazil registered 376 new deaths from Covid-19, bringing the national fatalities to 168,989. The infection number went up by 32,622, pushing the nationwide tally to 6,052,786, according to the official number as of Saturday.

Neighbouring India’s Covid-19 tally reached 9,095,806 on Sunday as 45,209 new cases were registered in the past 24 hours, the country’s health ministry said. And India’s death toll mounted to 133,227 as 501 more patients died up to Saturday morning.
