COVID-19 cases cross 3,900 in Rangpur division

Rangpur, July 11: The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 3,900 mark as 89 new patients were diagnosed as positive during the last 24 hours till 8 am Saturday in Rangpur division. The total number of COVID-19 patients now stood at 3,936 in all eight districts of the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today. “Among the total COVID-19 patients, 1,214 are from Rangpur, 165 of Panchagarh, 478 of Nilphamari, 194 of Lalmonirhat, 261 of Kurigram, 251 of Thakurgaon, 914 of Dinajpur and 459 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
With no more deaths reported on Friday, the total number of fatalities remains steady at 68 as the fatality rate is 1.72 percent in the division, he said.
“The district-wise break up of the fatalities remains at 21 in Rangpur, 16 in Dinajpur, 10 in Gaibandha, eight in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, four in Panchagarh and two each in Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he added.
“With the recovery of 26 more infected patients, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients rose to 2,416 as the recovery rate is 61.38 percent in the division till 8 am today,” the health official continued.
“The 2,416 recovered COVID-19 patients include 846 of Rangpur, 126 of Panchagarh, 338 of Nilphamari, 97 of Lalmonirhat, 127 of Kurigram, 178 of Thakurgaon, 503 of Dinajpur and 201 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
During the last 24 hours, 460 people were put under quarantine at home or institutions and 356 others released from all eight districts in the division.
A total of 52,886 people were put under quarantine since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in all eight districts of Rangpur division.
“Among the total quarantined people, 46,459 have so far been released and 6,427 are currently remaining in home or institutional isolation in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 32,295 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Friday and found 3,936 coronavirus positive cases with the infection rate of 12.18 percent in the division.
After receiving a total of 1,73,316 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, 1,02,701 pieces were distributed among the health service providers with a stock of 70,715 pieces in the division.
“Currently, the government hospitals and other health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to provide treatments to the infected patients and face the COVID-19 situation in the division,” Dr. Khan added. Talking to BSS, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain called upon all citizens to maintain physical distance and abide by the health directives for preventing community transmission of COVID-19 in the division.
