COVID-19 cases jump to 4,445 in Rangpur division

Rangpur, July 16: The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients jumped to 4,445 with 147 new positive cases reported during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.“The 147 infected cases were reported after diagnosing collected samples of the division at three laboratories at Rangpur, Dinajpur and Dhaka on Wednesday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.
“The district-wise break up of the 4,445 patients stands at 1,355 in Rangpur, 189 in Panchagarh, 535 in Nilphamari, 224 in Lalmonirhat, 301 in Kurigram, 267 in Thakurgaon, 1,073 in Dinajpur and 501 Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 2,828 with the healing of 72 more people yesterday raising the recovery rate of the COVID-19 virus infected patients to 63.62 percent in the division.
“The 2,828 recovered COVID-19 patients include 944 of Rangpur, 126 of Panchagarh, 387 of Nilphamari, 154 of Lalmonirhat, 137 of Kurigram, 191 of Thakurgaon, 632 of Dinajpur and 257 of Gaibandha districts,”. Siddiqui added.
Meanwhile, the total number of fatalities rose to 76 with three more deaths, including two from Dinajpur and one from Nilphamari, were reported during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.
The average casualty rate among all 4,445 COVID-19 patients currently stands at around 1.71 percent in the division.
“The district-wise break-up of the 73 deceased people stands at 23 in Rangpur, 21 in Dinajpur, 10 in Gaibandha, nine in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, four in Panchagarh and two each in Lalmonirhat and Thakurgaon districts of the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
A total of 178 CPOVID-19 patents are now undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 2,755 recovered patients and 73 deaths while 1,292 remaining in home isolations among the total 4,445 patients in the division.
During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 361 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 244 others released in the division.
A total of 54,794 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 48,198 released and 6,596 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines since the beginning.
Talking to BSS, Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 34,081 collected samples of Rangpur division till Wednesday night, and of them, 4,445 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 13.04 percent.
“We have so far received a total of 1,74,313 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, distributed 1,04,979 pieces among the health service providers with a current stock of 69,334 pieces in the division,” Dr. Khan said.
Currently, the government hospitals, health complexes and other health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to face the COVID-19 situation in Rangpur division.
Additional Division Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said massive efforts have been put on inspiring people in maintaining physical distance, wear masks and abide by the health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in the division.
