Covid-19 cases pass 1,000 (209) in BD; death toll now 46(7)

Seven more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Tuesday, taking the death toll in the country to 46.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases rose to 1,012 as 209 people tested positive during this period. There were no recoveries.

In the past 24 hours, 1,905 samples were tested, Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana said at the daily health bulletin broadcast from Mohakhali.

So far, 13,128 samples have been tested.Dr Sultana did not share any details about the new cases.

In the last 24 hours, she said 5,512 people were sent to home and institutional quarantine and noted that the government has prepared 488 institutions at district and upazila levels for institutional quarantine. These institutions are capable of accommodating 26,352 people.

During this period, 1,039 people were released from quarantine and 89 others were taken into isolation. “Currently, 383 people are being treated at isolation units,” Dr Sultana said, adding that 7,639 isolation beds were kept ready.

Meanwhile, 11 more institutions will start PCR testing soon. They include – Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Cumilla Medical College Hospital, Faridpur Medical College Hospital, Kushtia Medical College Hospital, M Abdur Rahim Medical College, Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College.
