Covid-19: Dhaka sees 46 more die, 2,265 cases in 24 hours

The death toll from Covid-19 disease reached 3,907 in Bangladesh on Saturday, as health authorities reported 46 more fatalities in the last 24 hours across the country. During the period, another 2,265 fresh cases were detected which increased the number of total cases in the country to 2,92,625 since the first detection of the infection on March 8.

According to a handout provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 11,356 new tests were carried out during the period that took the total number of sample tests to 14,31,855. It said 19.95 percent of tests turned out to be positive.

The daily infection rate was recorded 20.44 percent on Saturday.The total number of recoveries reached 1,75,567 on Saturday as 2,952 patients were reported cured in the last 24 hours.The recovery rate is now 60.00 percent in Bangladesh, the DGHS release added.

Among the 46 new deaths, including 36 men and 10 women, one is between 31 and 40 years, while six are between 41 and 50, another six between 51 and 60, and 33 are above 60 years.

Twenty-seven patients died in Dhaka, while five in Chattogram, eight in Rajshahi, one in Khulna, two in Barishal, two in Sylhet and one in Rangpur divisions during the period.

The DGHS data, recorded since March 18, shows that 19 patients who have lost their lives were below 10 years, while 35 between 11 and 20, 94 between 21 and 30, 244 between 31 and 40, 522 between 41 and 50, 1,087 between 51 and 60, and 1,906 were above 60 years of age.

Currently, 550 people are there in isolation while 53,263 are home and institutionally quarantined.
