Crackdown launched on target killers: Minister

Dhaka-Amid the growing target killings at different parts of the country, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said the members of law enforcement agencies have started combing operations to tackle it and track down the perpetrators.“All necessary steps have been taken to check target killings. We’re conducting combing operations wherever it is needed. We’re doing it at suspected places silently,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
The home minister came up with the disclosure while talking to reporters after attending an iftar party at Coast Guard Headquarters.
The minister said the government will be able to successfully control the target killings as the intelligence agencies have started working on it so that preventive masseurs can be taken before any such incident occurs.
Replying to a question, he said a quarter is carrying the target killings in a bid to destabilise the country, make embarrass the government and foil the execution of convicted war criminals.
About the murder of police officer Babul Akter’s wife in Chittagong, Asaduzzaman said they are utterly surprised by the incident. “We’ll arrest the killers, no matter who they are.”
Unidentified miscreants gunned down Mahmuda Khanam, 33, wife of police super Babul Akhter, at Chittagong city’s GEC intersection on Sunday.
Asked whether the police force has got demoralised following the incident, the minister said, “They’re not dispirited. They’ve taken it as a challenge instead and promised to track down the killers.”
