Curtain drops on Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games

DHAKA – The curtain of the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games, which lasted for ten days, dropped today (Saturday) at Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS). Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal virtually announced the official closing of the games as the chief guest.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell,MP, was present in the venue as the special guest.

Chief of Army Staff and BOA president General Aziz Ahmed SPB, BSP, BGBM, PBGM, BGBMS, PSC, virtually presided over the closing ceremony.

Besides, BOA Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza and BOA vice president Sheikh Boshir Ahmed Mamun, were,among others, present in the closing ceremony.

The BOA briefly organized the closing ceremony of the games due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Visitors were not allowed at the stadium. No cultural events were organized. The guests’ speeches were shown visually on two large giant screens set up in the field.

The gate of BNS was opened at 5.30 pm. The closing ceremony began at 6:40 pm with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Then the national anthem was played. Red and green flags were seen flying on two giant screens placed on the ground.

Short speeches of the guests started immediately after the national anthem. At 6.55 pm, the BOA president General Aziz Ahmed delivered his speech virtually thanking all, who are involved in organizing the Games.

From 7.13 pm to 7.34 pm, the giant screen showed images of the torch relay from Tungipara, Gopalganj to BNS held on March 31 and the inaugural speech of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the inaugural ceremony. Then the laser show started at 7.34 pm.

At 7.47 pm the games torch was extinguished and the sky became illuminated by the light of fireworks.

The BOA has organized the games marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee of Independence.

Nearly 5,300 sportsmen from all over the country took part in 31 disciplines of sports for 1271 medals including 378 gold at separate twenty nine venues of seven district across the country.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the Games through a glittering ceremony on April 1.BSS
