Deadline for final proposals for 3 gas blocks ends Tuesday

The deadline for submission of the final proposals for the country’s three offshore gas blocks ends Tuesday (Dec 20).Of the blocks, two are deep sea blocks — DS-10 and DS-11 – while the other is shallow sea block — SS-10.
Officials of state-owned Petrobangla said three international oil companies (IOCs) received the request for proposal (RFP) on November 3 to submit their respective financial and technical offers.
Earlier, they submitted their expressions of interest (EOIs) in October for the exploration and development of oil and gas resources in the three offshore blocks.
Under the Prompt Supply of Power and Energy (Special Provision) Act, 2010, Petrobangla on September 28 invited EOI to explore and develop those blocks in Bangladesh’s part of Bay of Bengal.
Singapore-based Kris Energy, South Korean Posco Daewoo International Corporation and Norway’s Statoil submitted EoIs for the deep and shallow sea blocks.
Unlike usual bidding rounds, the government will purchase oil and gas in the Bay of Bengal at a competitive price to be quoted by the IOCs in bids.
In the earlier bidding rounds, Petrobangla fixed the prices for oil and gas in model production sharing contracts (PSC) before bid launching.
Meanwhile, the government has awarded the deep sea gas block 12 to Daewoo International for exploration and recently Petrobangla and the Korean company signed a deal in this regard.
