Deepika, Irrfan to come together for Vishal Bhardwaj’s next

Deepika Padukone fans can rejoice! The actress has nealry finalised her next film and it sounds badass. Deepika will essay the role of Rahima Khanaka Sapna didi, a feared female don from the ’80s who nearly got Dawood Ibrahim killed. Joining her in the film will be her Piku co-star Irrfan, who will play a local gangster who falls in love with Deepika’s character and helps her get rid of Dawood. To add to the intrigue around the project is the fact that it will be produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and directed by his associate Honey Trehan.

The film’s producer Prerna Arora confirmed the news and added, “Yes, it is true that we are working together on this untitled venture. Deepika has been asking me to write a script for her for a long time. She has heard this script and loved it. We are in an advance stage of discussion with her.”

The film is based on one of the chapters from former investigative journalist turned-author S Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Vishal had purchased rights to the chapter. A source from the team tells us, ““Sapna Didi had planned Dawood’s execution during a cricket match in Sharjah to avenge her husband’s death. Unfortunately for her, he got wind of her plans and killed her days before she could get to him. The film is expected to go on the floors by the year-end,”reports ANI.
