Dense fog cause Ferry suspension on Paturia-Daulatdia route

Manikganj, Jan 26 – Ferry services have resumed on the Paturia-Daulatdia route after remaining suspended for nearly five hours due to poor visibility, officials said on Tuesday.“Ferry movement on the route resumed at 8 am as dense fog gradually started to clear,” said Mohiuddin Russel, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s (BIWTC) Aricha sector.
The services on the route were on hold since 3 am on Tuesday due to poor visibility.
Five ferries which got stranded in the middle of the river, have managed to reach the ghat area safely, Russel said.
Some 300 vehicles, however, remained stranded on both sides of the river. With the resumption of ferry services, vehicles carrying passengers were allowed to cross the river first, officials said.
Poor visibility caused by the overnight build-up of fog disrupts ferry services on this important river route every year during winter. – UNB
