Dhaka exempts duty, VAT from dengue-testing kits

Dhaka – Amid the shortage of dengue-testing kits due to the widespread prevalence of dengue, the government has exempted import duty, VAT, advance tax and advance income tax from the detection kits. The Internal Resources Division of the Finance Ministry issued a notification on Monday in this regard.

The order will remain in force until October 31, the notification said.

The exemption is applicable for dengue-testing kits, dengue reagents, and kits for platelet and plasma.

According to the Health Emergency Operations Centre of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), five more people have died of dengue and 2,065 others infected with the mosquito-borne fever as the dengue cases are surging across the country.

At least 7,658 patients, including children, are undergoing treatment at hospitals now, it said. UNB
