Dhaka – Dhaka Mohammedan Limited reached semifinal of the ongoing TVS 31st Federation Cup Football Tournament eliminating Chattogram Abahani Limited by 2-0 goals in the second quarterfinal at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Monday.
Midfielder Sahed Hossain and Malian forward Souleymane Diabate netted one goal each for the traditional black and white Dhaka Mohammedan.
Dhaka Mohammedan will play Rahmatgonj MFS in the first semifinal on Thursday (January 2) at the same venue.
In the day’s match, Dhaka Mohammedan put pressure on Ctg Abahani from the very beginning with their attacking football.
In the 24th minute, midfielder Sahed Hossain opened account for Dhaka Mohammedan by a close-range shot as Ctg Abahani defender Bobokhonov Ikbol Jon made a blunder in the danger zone (1-0).
Just after six minutes, forward S Diabate of Mali doubled the margin by a powerful grounder in the 30th minute (2-0).
Ctg Abahani managed a chance to reduce the margin but Dhaka Mohammedan goalkeeper Md Hossain Sujan smartly denied a close-range powerful shot of Abahani’s Ivorian captain cum midfielder Kephi Jean Charles Didier in the 39th minute.
Dhaka Mohammedan’s Malian forward Souleymane Diabate and Ctg Abahani’s Uzbek defender Pulatov Shukur Ali and midfielder Manik Hossain Mollah got yellow cards.
