Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi may be under lockdown

The health authorities are planning to put Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Narsingdi under lockdown on pilot basis at the initial stage.

Dr Abul Kalam Azad, director general of Directorate General of Health Services, made the disclosure while talking to UNB on Sunday.

“A proposal has been placed to put the four districts under lockdown on pilot basis. It’s merely a proposal, the government will take the final decision,” he said.

He said recommendation to divide the country, including Dhaka, into three zones – red, yellow and green – will be disclosed once the government takes a decision.

Contacted, Habibur Rahman, chief of Health Ministry’s media cell, echoed the statement of DGHS DG.

He said any decision is yet to be made over dividing the country into three zones and putting specific zones under lockdown. “We’re working on it,” he added.

Bangladesh is grappling with worsening coronavirus situation with a total of 65,769 confirmed Covid-19 patients.

The country has so far recorded 888 deaths from coronavirus.UNB
