Dhaka reports 32 Covid-19 deaths; 2024 new cases on Sunday

Dhaka, Aug 16 – Health authorities in Bangladesh on Sunday reported the death of 32 patients from Covid-19 spiking the total deaths to 3,657 on the 150th day after the country reported the first death from the disease on March 18. The total number of cases in the country, meanwhile, jumped to 2,76,549 with the addition of 2,024 new patients detected in the last 24 hours following the test of 10,018 samples, according to new information provided by the health authorities.
Against the total 13,51,666 tests carried out, 20.46 percent have turned out Covid-19 positive in Bangladesh.
So far, 1,58,950 people have recovered from the deadly disease and 1,315 of them in the last 24 hours. The fatality rate in the country is 1.32 percent while the recovery rate is 57.48 percent.
The number of deaths per one million population is still 22. The country is seeing 1,677 cases in 8,197 tests per one million population.
Currently, the number of active coronavirus cases in Bangladesh is 113,942, according to Worldometer.
A DGHS handout about the local and global coronavirus situation said 2,890 of the total victims are men and 767 women. Of the newly deceased, 19 are aged above 60 years and nine others are between 51 and 60.
DGHS data recorded since March 18 show that 19 patients who met their end of lives were aged below 10 years, while 34 between 11 and 20, 91 between 21 and 30, 231 between 31 and 40, 496 between 41 and 50, 1,032 between 51 and 60 and 1754 were aged above 60 years.
The number of deaths in Dhaka division is rising as health authorities report 14 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours while Chattogram and Barishal recorded three deaths each. Khulna, Rangpur and Sylhet recorded two deaths each and six more died in Rajshahi division. – UNB
