Bangladesh on Sunday recorded its highest number of death as fast spreading coronavirus claimed 28 more lives in the last 24 hours raising death toll in the country to 480.
During the period, Bangladesh witnessed another surge in Covid-19 patients with the detection of 1,532 new patients that took the number of confirmed cases in the country to 33,610.
Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at the daily online bulletin.
In the last 24 hours, 47 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 8,908 samples, she added.
She also said that in the last 24 hours 415 coronavirus patients made full recovery in the country which upped the total number of recoveries to 6,901.
Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 20.53 percent and mortality rate 1.43 percent in Bangladesh, Dr Nasima said.
Previously, Bangladesh reported the record number of new deaths in a day on Friday which was 24.
Among the deceased, 23 were male and five were female. “Of them, 20 were from Dhaka division, seven from Chittagong division and one was from Sylhet division,” Prof Nasima said.
Fifteen of the deaths were reported in Dhaka City, three in Narayanganj and two in Gazipur.“Among others, two died in Chattogram district, one in Chattogram City Corporation area, two in Noakhali, one in Chandpur and another in Cumilla. One died in Sylhet City Corporation area,” she added.
Out of the 28 victims, 23 died at hospitals and four at their homes while another was declared dead after being brought to the hospital.
“Three were aged between 31 and 40, three between 41 and 50, 13 between 51 and 60, five between 61 and 70, three between 71 and 80, and another between 81 and 90 years,” she said.Dr Nasima urged the holidaymakers leaving Dhaka to act sensibly and maintain social distance.
“Be careful about what you do and keep your family safe while celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr. Maintain at least three feet distance while performing Eid prayer,” she said. She also urged everyone to refrain from embracing which is part of the Eid tradition.
Dr Nasima also mentioned that everyone should be more careful about the children during the Eid days.Across the country 253 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 3,063 were home and institutionally quarantined during the same period.
