House and apartment owners of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) formed a human chain at Kalabagan on Mirpur Road in the city on Saturday protesting the rise in holding tax and blatant indiscrimination in the name of revision.
The residents under the banner of ‘Amra Dhanmondibasi’ (we are the residents of Dhanmondi) said they will abstain from paying holding tax until the problem comes to an end, said a press release.
The speakers of the programme urged the DSCC to fix the tax amount logically after discussing with the stakeholders.
Mohammad Shawkat Hossain, convener of the organisation, Kamal Ahmed, Jahanara Begum Babley, Mozammel Huq Bhuyian, Golam Rabbani Hiru, Abul Hayat Hedayet and Mobarrak-E-Motin, among others, spoke on the human chain programme.
Earlier, the organisation held a press briefing at the National Press Club and announced to form the human chain.
On November 16, the organisation submitted a memorandum to DSCC Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon in this regard.
