Dhaka South City Corpn starts drive to restore dead canals

Dhaka, Nov. 06 – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Friday started cleaning waste from Shampur canal while continuing its drive in Dhanmondi Lake.

The campaign is part of DSCC’s plan to bring the dying canals and water bodies of the city to life. It also wants to destroy the breeding grounds of mosquitos in these areas through clean-up programs.
Earlier, Dhaka South Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh instructed to clean up and remove garbage from Shampur canal, Jirani canal, Kalunagar canal, Manda canal, and Khilgaon Lake.
The campaign of cleaning Shampur canal started at Baroitola point following the direction. Nearly 100 DSCC workers joined the drive, which is expected to solve waterlogging woes and cut pollution.
DSCC Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md Badrul Amin said this.
About Dhaka South’s ongoing drive in Dhanmondi Lake, he said those who walk and do exercise in Dhanmondi Lake will enjoy the results of the cleanup campaign in the area.
