Dhaka University adopts Tk8.69 bn budget for 2020-21FY

Dhaka, July 23 – The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday approved a Tk 869.56-crore budget for the fiscal year 2020-21. The approved budget has a 1.09 percent allocation for researches.
DU Pro Vice-Chancellor (administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad placed the new budget as the treasurer post is currently vacant.
The budget was presented in the annual session chaired by Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman at the Sir Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban in the afternoon.
Like the previous years, a big chunk of the budget will be spent on salary and allowances.
Of the amount, 30.71 percent has been allocated for salary, 24.81 percent for allowance, 22.77 percent for supply and service expense, 14.38 percent for pension and retirement benefits, 3.52 percent for a capital grant, and 2.72 percent for other grants.
Altogether, 86.03 percent of the budget, about Tk 748.56 crore, is being sanctioned by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and 8.17 percent, or Tk 71.38 crore, will be collected from the university’s internal income sources while the rest Tk 50 crore or 5.81 percent is deficit.
In FY 2019-20, 2018-19, 2017-18 and 2016-17 the proposed budgets were Tk 810.42 cr, Tk 741.13 cr, Tk 664.37cr and Tk 664.11 cr respectively. – UNB
