Dhaka XI clinch Women’s Hockey series against Kolkata Warriors

Dhaka – Dhaka Eleven clinched the three-match women’s hockey series 2-1 after conceding 0-1 goal defeat against touring Kolkota Warriors in the 3rd and last match at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium here on Saturday.Shyma Bano scored the match-winner for Kolkota Warriors in the 22nd minute of the match.Earlier, Bangladesh Women’s Hockey team under the banner of Dhaka Eleven assured the series beating Kolkata Warriors in the first two matches comfortably.

Bangladesh Women’s Hockey team made a historic start in their first appearance in International Hockey beating Kolkata Warriors by 2-0 goals in the first match on Wednesday with Shimu Aktar and Nomita Karmakar scoring one goal each.

Dhaka Eleven assured the three-match series outplaying their Indian rivals Kolkata Warriors by 3-0 goals in the 2nd match last Thursday.

Ferdous Joyeta put Dhaka Eleven ahead in the very 6th minute from a penalty corner (1-0), Nadira doubled the margin in the 44th minute by a field goal while Nomita Karmakar, who scored a goal in the first match, sealed the fate of the match scoring 3rd goal for Dhaka Election in the 57th minute, also by a field goal on Thursday.

This was the first international hockey match for Bangladesh women’s, who earlier played some local hockey matches in the 70’s and the women’s hockey was stopped from the 80’s at any level.

After a long gap, Bangladesh Hockey Federation took initiatives to restart and nurture the country’s women’s hockey and made a memorable start in the series beating Indian team, displaying a better brand of hockey against their mighty opponents.UNB
