Dhaka’s air quality improves after rains

Dhaka, Oct 26 (UNB) – The air quality of Bangladesh’s capital improved significantly on Friday morning after two days of rain.

Dhaka was ranked 69th in the Air Quality Index (AQI) with a score of 42 at 8:30am. The air quality was classified as moderate.

Pakistan’s Lahore and India’s Delhi were at the top of the list of cities with worst air quality with scores of 231 and 185 respectively.

When the AQI value is between 51 and 100, the air quality is acceptable but children and people with respiratory disease are advised to limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

The air quality is categorised as good when the AQI score remains between 0-50.

The AQI, an index for reporting daily air quality, tells people how clean or polluted the air of a certain city is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for them.

Bangladesh’s overcrowded capital has been grappling with air pollution for a long time. The quality usually improves during monsoon.
