Dive against harmful polythene from June 20

The Department of Environment (DoE) will launch a 42-day countrywide drive against harmful polythene on June 20.Talking to UNB on Thursday, DOE director (monitoring and enforcement) M Alamgir said the drive is scheduled to be conducted from June 20 to July 31.
Despite various programmes under the department to discourage the use of harmful polythene, the product is being used indiscriminately in many places of the country, he said. “The regular drives of mobile courts in this regard are also on,” he added.
M Alamgir also noted that a surprise drive by a mobile court against the harmful polythene, led by executive magistrate Shamsul Alam, in Mirpur area on Thursday realised a fine of Tk 30,500. (Source: UNB)
