Diversify products, President asks BGMEA

Mentioning that doing business these days is more competitive in the present global order, President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday advised the readymade garment (RMG) exporters for product diversification to successfully survive in the competition. The President came up with the advice when a 25- member delegation of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by its president Md Siddiqur Rahman, met him at Bangabhaban. During the meeting, the delegation apprised the President of various activities of their association. President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

The delegation informed the President that the country’s export from the RMG sector in the last fiscal was $28 billion and hoped that it will be possible to achieve the $50 billion RMG export target by 2021. Praising the RMG sector for Bangladesh’s socioeconomic development, President Abdul Hamid urged the delegation to take new endeavors for the continued development of the sector. He also asked the RMG owners to ensure welfare of the garment workers.

The delegation said the security of RMG workers in their workplaces has been ensured and condition of factories is now better than the past. The leaders expressed gratitude to the government for its policy support for the development of the RMG sector and sought more cooperation for further development in the sector. Secretaries concerned to the President office were present.
