DMCH team to treat newborn who was shot in mother’s womb

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) authorities have formed an eight-member medical team for the proper treatment of the newborn who was shot inside the womb of its mother allegedly by Jubo League men in Magura.
Dr Ashraful Haque Kajal, head of the DMCH Paediatric Surgery Department and also a medical team member, said the medical team was formed in a bid to monitor the health condition of the newborn.The medical team includes Prof Dr Adit Hossain Mollah, head of the Neonatal Department; Dr M Abdul Hanif, a professor of the Paediatric Surgery Department; Dr Kanis Hasina, Dr Qamrul Alam; and Dr Nawajis Khan, associate professors of the department; Dr Golam Mostafa; associate professor of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department; and Dr Faridul Hasan.
A seven-month expecting mother, Nazma Begum, 30, among three people suffered bullet injuries as she was caught in the line of fire during a clash between two groups of Jubo League activists over establishing supremacy at Doarpara in Magura sadar upazila on the evening of July 23.
Nazma was taken to Sadar Hospital where she gave birth to a baby through caesarean section on that night. It was found after the birth that the newborn also suffered bullet wounds while in the womb.
Later, both the mother and the baby were admitted to the DMCH on July 25.- UNB
