Dhaka – As part of its anti-pollution drive, the Department of Environment has fined four factories a total of Tk 1.40 crore for harming the environment in Dhaka and Narayanganj.The DoE summoned authorities of three washing factories situated on the bank of the Buriganga River in Keraniganj and a dyeing factory in Narayanganj to its Dhaka headquarters on Thursday.
Following hearings, DoE Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) AKM Mizanur Rahman slapped the fine on them for polluting the environment by running their factories without environmental clearance and
without installing effluent treatment plants (ETPs).
Jony Finishing factory at Narayanganj was fined Tk 1.36 crore while Dhaka Wash, MS Washing and Diamond Washing factories at Keraniganj were penalised Tk 2.22 lakh, 1 lakh and Tk 65,000 respectively.
Besides, the authorities of the four factories were directed to set up ETPs immediately to avoid shutdown.
