Dhaka – The department of environment (DoE) has completed all preparations to shutdown the Hazaribagh tanneries following the High Court (HC) order.
Meanwhile, the leaders of Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) yesterday hold a meeting on the HC verdict whether they will file appeal or not against the verdict.
“We are just waiting to receive the main copy of HC order. As soon as we get the verdict—our operation will start immediately,” Kazi Sarwar Imtiaz Hashmi, director general in-charge of DoE told this reporter on Tuesday.
The DoE will conduct the drive to shutdown all the tannery factories in Hazaribagh with the help of three authorities—power, WASA and Titas Gas, he said in reply to a query.
“We just know the HC verdict through newspapers and electronic media. We have completed all letters to serve the three authorities to disconnect utility services like water, gas and electricity,” Hashmi said.
The DoE officials have already gathered information about the number of tanneries in Hazaribagh, he added.
However, the BTA leaders are yet to take any decision over filing appeal against the HC verdict till filing this report at about 8:00pm.
“We are in a meeting now. Decision is yet to be taken. If any decision is come from today’s meeting—we will go to our lawyer for consultation over filling appeal,” BTA general secretary Md Shakhawatullah told The Independent over cell phone. – Staff Reporter
