Dhaka, Oct 03 – In the wake of an extended meeting by a faction of the party, Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain has convened a meeting of its central convening committee (CCC) on October 17.
“Our central convening committee will meet on October 17 at the Jatiya Press Club. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am,” party General Secretary Reza Kibria told UNB on Saturday.
He said their party president convened the meeting and he will join it virtually due to the prevailing coronavirus situation.
Reza Kibria said the meeting will work out the party’s next course of action and approve some organisational decisions taken by the party.
He said their party president dissolved the central committee on March 4 and formed a 70-member convening one on March 12.
On September 26, a faction of Gonoforum leaders, led by its former general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu, executive presidents Dr Abu Sayeed and Subrata Chowdhury, had an extended meeting of the party’s central committee where they decided to hold a national council on December 26 next.
They also decided to expel party general secretary Dr Reza Kibria and three other leaders from the party.
Dr Kamal, however, said the meeting in the name of Gonoforum was illegal as the party president and convener were not aware of it.
A close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Dr Kamal Hossain founded Gonoforum in 1993 deserting Awami League.
Conflicts within the party leaders began after its fifth council held on April 26 last year as many party leaders, including then general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu, were left out of the committee formed there. – UNB
