Dhaka South City mayor orders setting up STS in every ward

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Thursday directed the officials concerned to construct Secondary Transfer Station (STS) in every ward including the newly absorbed 18 wards. The mayor came up with the direction at an official meeting with the Waste Management Officials of DSCC, said a press release.
According to sources, there are currently 25 STSs in 25 wards of DSCC. So, more than 50 wards of DSCC are managing the waste without any STS. Hence, DSCC is facing huge challenges to manage and dump the waste generated by residents of DSCC, said the release.
During the meeting, Taposh also directed the officials to undertake more awareness programmes for the city dwellers so that they do not throw wastes here and there and keep the city clean.
He also instructed the officials concerned of waste management to chalk out a plan up for the next 30 years.
During the meeting, Mayor Taposh solicited the citizens to ensure the cleanliness at personal periphery as only the DSCC cleaners can’t ensure cent percent cleanliness and serenity for a livable Dhaka, reports UNB.
