DSE, CSE continue downturn Tuesday

Trading at the country’s twin bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – suffered loss for second successive session as prices of most of the issues decreased on Tuesday. This has been the second downturn in the index of both the bourses after both continued consecutive gains for last six sessions in last two weeks.   The DSE benchmark index, DSEX came down to 4706 points while the day’s turnover was also lower by about Tk 79 crore.   Trading at both DSE and CSE began on negative note in the morning on Tuesday and ended the day with moderate loss after some ups and downs throughout the session. The volume of trade in terms of value was lower at both the bourses on the day than on Monday.   The DSE benchmark index, DSEX shed 45.07 points or 0.94 percent to reach 4706.54 at the close of trading on Tuesday. Of the 292 issues traded, 76 gained, 181 declined and 35 remained unchanged.   Most of the traded issues of the day included those from banking, Ceramics, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textile and petroleum sectors.   Shares worth Tk 593.28 crore changed hands at the DSE on the day against Tk 672.22 crore on Monday, showing daily turnover loss of Tk 78.94 crore.   The day’s top 10 losers at the DSE were 6th ICB, Shympur Sugar, RN Spinning, Eastern Bank, Lafarge Surma Cement, Kay & Que, Gemini Seafood, Dutch Bangla Bank, Monno Ceramics, and Bengal Windsor.   Padma Oil, Square Pharma and Summit Power were the top most traded issues at the DSE in terms of value while United Air,  National Bank and Southeast Bank were the most traded on the in terms of volume.   The CSE key index, CSCX lost 90.78 points to reach 9252.03 at the close today. Of the 228 issues traded, 55 advanced, 157 suffered loss and 16 remained unchanged. The value of the traded issues was Tk 51.13 crore on the day against Tk 63.74 crore on Monday. – UNB
