DSE, CSE end week with marginal gain

Share price index at the country’s twin bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – ended the week with marginal gain on Thursday and also the DSE index crossing 4400 mark.   This positive end of the week’s trading came amid a new development in the political arena with new elected members of 10th parliament taking oath on Thursday, although skeptics say this will not bring any political stability. On the week’s concluding session Thursday, trading at both the bourses – DSE and CSE – started on positive note and also ended the day in gain. The volume of trade in terms of value was lower in DSE on the day similar to that of Wednesday.   The country’s whole trade and business have been experiencing a standstill for a couple of months as the standoff over the general election left more than a hundred people killed and several thousand others injured.   The DSE benchmark index, DSEX gained 16.55 points or 0.37 percent to reach 4407.82 at the close of trading on Thursday. Of the 290 issues traded, 167 gained, 85 declined and 38 remained unchanged.   Most of the traded issues of the day included those from petroleum, mutual fund, engineering, finance and insurance sector.   Shares worth Tk 517.58 crore changed hands at the DSE on the day against Tk 539 crore on Wednesday.   The day’s top 10 gainers at the DSE were PTL, Apex Spinning, 1st ICB Mutual Fund, BD Building, Meghna Petroleum, DBH, Delta Spinning, Padma Oil, and Jamuna Oil.   Golden Son, Meghna Petroleum, Lanka Bangla,  SPPCL and BD Building Pharma were the top most traded issues at the DSE in terms of both value and volume.   The CSE key index, CSCX gained 47.50 points to reach 8683.44 at the close today. Of the 225 issues traded, 106 advanced, 94 suffered loss and 25 remained unchanged. The value of the traded issues was Tk 53.01 crore on the day against Tk 53.31 crore on Wednesday.   Earlier, in the morning, the DSEX gained 34.20 points or 0.77 percent to reach 4425.47 at 11:20 am while the CSCX gained 56.30 points to stand at 8672.24 also at 11:20 am today. – UNB
