On the second day of Prince William and Princess Kate’s official royal trip to India and Bhutan, Kate had a Marilyn Monroe moment at a solemn event honoring the war dead.
The Duchess of Cambridge, 34, was unable to control her $2,500 Emilia Wickstead dress — a human moment reminiscent of the famous 1950s photograph of Monroe’s dress blowing above her knees.

The future queen of England struggled to keep her dress from exposing her, but appeared to brush off any discomfort. This is not the first time she has had a mishap with a dress.
On the couple’s tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2014, Kate experienced a similar mishap while disembarking from the plane; her red dress showed off her legs.
Of course, Prince William and Princess Kate have no control over the weather, yet the tabloids continue to criticize her for not adding weights to the hem of her dress.
Today marked a more ceremonial part of the couple’s India and Bhutan tour, with the duke and duchess also paying a visit to Old Birla House, the spot where Mahatma Gandhi, India’s founding father, was assassinated in 1948.
Earlier in the day, the royal couple met with young Indian entrepreneurs. William took a try at cooking and learned to make dosa, an Indian-style pancake specialty similar to a crepe.
When William offered it to his wife, though, she waved it away amusingly, indicating she wasn’t quite sure of William’s cooking skills.
The Duke of Cambridge, however, clearly enjoyed the moment when he got behind the wheel of a racing car simulator.
The day was capped off at a 90th birthday garden party honoring the queen. Kate wore a $4,500 white and black Indian-themed Alice Temperley dress.
The couple was joined at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Delhi by 2,000 guests from political, business and society circles.
One of the guests asked Kate how she remained so fit.
“I am running after my kids,” Kate replied.
Onstage, a surprise came when William was asked to cut the Union flag-themed birthday cake with a traditional Indian sword and he turned to Kate to do the honors.
William paid tribute to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in a speech.
“I am honored that we also have a chance, tonight, to celebrate a very happy milestone for the United Kingdom and for my family in particular,” William said. “Next week, her majesty the queen, my grandmother, turns 90. I am so grateful to all of you for turning out tonight to help us mark that occasion.”
“India’s contribution to the Commonwealth is something that is enormously important to her. As my grandmother’s birthday gives us a chance to celebrate the partnership between our nations, I hope you don’t mind if I take the opportunity to pay tribute to the queen on a more personal note,” William continued. “I am incredibly lucky to have my grandmother in my life. As she turns 90, she is a remarkably energetic and dedicated guiding force for her family and I am so glad that my children are having the chance to get to know the queen. George and Charlotte, too, will discover how lucky they are to have such a wonderful great-grandmother – a role model for the rest of their lives.”
William also read out a message from his grandmother to the assembled guests, prompting much laughter as he said, “Now, it is important that everyone here tonight understands that I am here as the queen’s representative. She may be my grandmother, but she is also very much the boss!”, reports (ABC News.
