Ducsu wants ban on religion-based student politics at DU

Dhaka, Sept 26 (UNB) – Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) on Thursday proposed imposing a ban on religion-based student politics on the DU campus.

The recommendation came from a Ducsu executive committee meeting presided over by its President and DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman.

As per the agenda of the meeting, Ducsu Literature Affairs Secretary Mazharul Kabir Shayon placed the proposal which was passed unanimously, said the meeting sources.

Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of the body Saddam Hussain, also the DU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) general secretary, said, “We’ve recommended that the university ban the politics of all religion-based political organisations on the DU campus after the unanimous adoption of the proposal.”

Earlier, the meeting started at the Ducsu Building around 4pm. Ducsu Vice-president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur and others were present.

However, Ducsu General Secretary Golam Rabbani, also immediate past BCL general secretary, did not turn up.

After the meeting, Prof M Akhtaruzzaman told reporters that they received the recommendation from Ducsu to ban religion-based student politics. “We’ll discuss the matter with the decision-making governing body of the university.”

Ducsu also placed recommendations to resolve the accommodation crisis, construct a new and modern library and ensure free internet facilities.
